Double QuickScore-Review: TRIPLE DARE and DARE ME by Lexxie Couper

Two men, one woman, one momentous dare.

Serious and determined, Joseph Hudson isn’t Australia’s businessman of the year for nothing. So now he’s asking himself, how did he get lost on the side of a mountain in the Colorado Rockies—in the middle of winter—with night fast approaching? Three simple words. I dare you.

Fear isn’t in Rob Thorton’s vocabulary. Life is for the taking, and Rob uses both hands. Challenging his best mate to take an impromptu snowboarding trip to the U.S. is just the latest in a lifetime of dares. Besides, he has an ulterior motive for the trip. And a plan…

Park Ranger Anna McCarthy knows what trouble looks like, and it’s written all over the two Aussies she first encounters in the ski lodge. Instinct has her following them onto the mountain, and sure enough, they end up needing her winter survival expertise. But not even her skills can stop her body from responding to the sexy muscles she finds beneath their ski suits.

Stuck in a remote cabin until the storm passes, the temperatures rise until all bets are off. And a double dare turns into a triple threat—to their hearts.

Warning: Contains lots of scorching boy on girl on boy action, a heroine who knows what she wants and two sexy-arsed Australian heroes to really work up a sweat over. Oh, and a soul-deep love story with a revelation that may make you cry.

First line:
Joseph Hudson tossed his snowboard aside, threw his goggles over his shoulder and swung a fist at his best mate.

Memorable Scenes:
– Joseph and Anna’s first kiss > effing hot!
– the sex scenes > OMG! Fanning myself didn’t work for these. I needed ice water!

Humor gets me every time and Lexxie Couper gives it to me in spades!
The rawness to Lexxie Couper’s writing was once again present. I wasn’t even a third into the story and already feeling like I was going to spontaneously combust. But not only did I get hot and bothered, no Lexxie Couper also made me cry my eyes out with the emotional plot in this story. I went from “no no no, this can’t be” to bawling in a minute flat.

I loved Anna and the guys! Anna just went for what she wanted (the ménage) and whom she wanted (Joseph). Rob was just…wow! His zest for life and pleasure was contagious. My heart ached for him. Joseph was amazing in a controlled, quiet way but we all know what they say about the quiet ones.

I dare lovers of erotic romance, ménages in particular, to read this book and not love it!

Favorite Quotes:
Thanks to Robert bloody Thorton, over the twenty-six years spanning their friendship Joseph had been suspended, sacked, jailed, robbed, handcuffed to a stripper pretending to be a cop, handcuffed to a cop who sure as hell wasn’t a stripper, left stranded on a public beach without a stitch of clothing and almost married to a Russian buy-a-bride at the ripe old age of sixteen.

The tall one—Joseph—gaped at her, his eyes locked on her face. “Err…”
“What my mate means to say—” Rob/Bob began, that evil dimple she’d seen last night flashing into existence on his right cheek.
“Is he’s a moron?” Anna snapped, cutting him off. The dimple was doing all sorts of unnerving things to her anger. And all sorts of unnerving things to her sex, damn it.

She’d been kissed before. Many times, in fact. As far as looks go, she knew she’d been generously smiled upon. But there was something about the Australian’s kiss…a delicate passion she hadn’t expected. Almost sad. The notion made her heart quicken. She moaned, the sound vibrating softly in her throat only to be swallowed by Rob’s kiss.

Joseph lowered his head and brushed his lips over hers. The kiss sang of such sweet hesitation her heart stopped for a still moment, only to burst into fevered flight when he snaked his arms around her waist and yanked her against his body with a growl.

Pleasure threaded through her. Twin ribbons of exquisite pleasure. […] Two ribbons flowing through her body to meet in the very center of her core. They threaded and twisted and knotted together until each ribbon became indefinable, indistinguishable.

Joseph had died and gone to heaven. He must have. How else could he explain the pure, concentrated pleasure searing through his body?

Jesus, why had he agreed to this challenge? If she could make him utter a sound before either of them came she got to decide the rest of the day’s events. He should have known he’d lose. As soon as Anna touched him he was one big, turned-on six-foot bag of man groans. When they made love…

Defying death is the ultimate dare. Defying love? Well, that’s just stupid.

Back-to-back medical degrees took Emily Knox right where she planned to be: treating patients in an alternative cancer clinic. But nothing prepared her for a cocky, cheeky Aussie who strode into her life and dared her to cure him. She told herself it was his challenge she couldn’t resist—not his daredevil charm.

Eight months later, Rob’s out of danger…and Emily’s in trouble. She’s in deep, too deep. Worse, Rob has left the clinic against doctor’s orders. There’s nothing for it but to follow him across eleven thousand miles of land and sea to give him what for—as his doctor, of course.

Rob never expected to survive the brain tumor. Nor did he expect to fall head over heels for his very proper, very English oncologist. The problem? Her Hippocratic Oath hangs between them, keeping her just out of reach. Now, with “cured” on his medical chart and his duty as best man for his best mate calling, he takes off for home to start getting his old life back.

Trouble is, while the good doctor cured his cancer, she seems to have inflicted him with something else—desire he just can’t shake.

Product Warnings:
Rob Thorton is addictive. Also, there’s scorching passion, undeniable lust, soul-shattering desire, heartbreaking angst, explosive sex and of course, Australian sarcasm. Did you really expect anything else?

Title: DARE ME

First line: Rob Thorton took one look at his best mate and burst out laughing.

Memorable Scenes:
– Rob dancing with 8 yo Penny at Joe’s wedding > so endearing!
– the car scene > loved it when Rob stopped the car on the side of the road to kiss Emily and what followed was trademark Lexxie Couper sizzle
– the phone call with Joe > squeezed my heart
– the neighbor’s car scene > I will never look at a Porsche hood again without thinking of this book

Before reading this book I was warned it was going to be emotional so I started it with that tight, knotted feeling in my stomach, bracing myself for the (emotional) impact. And emotional it definitely was! But it was also sweet, hot and funny.

An English stubborn and prickly oncologist and an Australian impulsive, uninhibited and equally stubborn, sexy Aussie, would that work? They made the perfect couple for this second Dare story!

Since the end of TRIPLE DARE a lot has happened. Rob has survived a deadly diagnosis and Joe and Anna are about to tie the knot. From the first page I fell back into the humorous, fun banter between the lifelong friends Rob Thorton and Joseph Hudson.

Lexxie Couper’s contemporary erotic romances never fail to please me as they showcase her fabulous unapologetic, unembellished writing style and her uncanny talent to combine that with a great sense of humor and fun. Only Lexxie can mention a hero’s smelly feet and get away with it!

DARE ME was exactly what I hoped it would be: emotional, hot and I got to see the emotionally vulnerable Rob behind the mask of sardonic and  humor, his larger-than-life attitude and daredevil actions. I can’t thank the reading Gods (and Vivian Arend) enough for bringing Lexxie Couper and her stories to my attention.

Favorite Quotes

“I’m going to kill you, Thorton,” Joseph Hudson muttered, adjusting his sapphire-studded cufflinks as he bestowed the hovering priest with a wide smile.
[…] “No you’re not.” He adjusted his own cufflinks, a matching set to Joseph’s pair and dropped a wink at the vivacious blonde in the body-hugging red dress perched on the second pew back from the alter. “You’re going to get married. Besides, you almost look as good as I do. What are you complaining about?”
[…] “I’m complaining because I’m marrying the love of my life dressed like I’ve just stepped out of a really bad porn film from the seventies. How the hell did I let you talk me into this?”

But before she could open her mouth, Rob pointed his finger at her. “You told me there wasn’t a chance in hell of us— ” he waved his finger back and forth between them like an insane maestro conductor, “—happening. You told me your Hippocratic bloody Oath meant we could never be.”
She licked her lips, sucking a deep breath through her nose. “We kissed—”
“We did more than kiss, honey,” he cut her off. “Our clothes were off, our legs were tangled. Hell, your hand was wrapped around my d#ck and my hand was—”

His tongue plunged past her lips, stroking over her tongue in a kiss that was far more forceful than the one they’d shared in his hospital room fifteen days ago. That kiss had been gentle in its molten hunger. It had filled her with aching desire. This kiss, however…there was nothing gentle about it. He took complete possession of her mouth, invading it with not just hunger but ravenous greed. Its ferocity flooded her sex with damp pressure and made her head swim.

She bowed her back, grinding back into his penetrations, wanting more. Wanting it harder. Oh Lord, she’d never felt so consumed by pleasure. So possessed by raw physical rapture. It was as if she was a creature born from desire, a being created for Rob’s worship. And she reveled in that erotic, carnal worship. She reveled in the sensual fire engulfing her. She reveled in it and willingly surrendered to it.

He touched her lips again, loving the way they felt under his fingertips. Velvety-soft and giving. “I feared little in life until I met you,” he murmured, watching her face. “Now I realize, what I fear the most is a life without you.”
