Blurb from Goodreads:
Twenty years after the terror of First Dawn—when mankind learned that vampires lived secretly among them—the threat of violence reigns as the two species struggle to coexist. The only group preserving the fragile harmony is the Order, an elite cadre of Breed warriors dedicated to protecting humans and vampires alike. And in this precarious world of torn loyalties and shattered trust, Mira, a fiery squad captain, finds that every fight bears an intensely personal cost.

Raised among the Order, Mira has always believed in the warrior’s code of swift—and even lethal—justice. But the one thing she desires more than the Order’s hard-won acceptance is Kellan Archer, a sexy but troubled Breed fighter. In love with him since childhood, Mira once broke through his tough exterior during an unexpected night of rapture, but the next day he mysteriously disappeared, never to return.

Kellan didn’t think he would ever see Mira again—or have to confront the truth of why he left. After abandoning the Order years ago, he now leads a band of human rebels intent on carrying out their own vigilante rule of law. Yet a high-profile kidnapping assignment brings him face-to-face with the past he sought to avoid, and the striking woman he has tried desperately to forget. And as tensions mount and the risk of bloodshed grows, Kellan and Mira must take sides—between the competing missions that dominate their lives, and the electrifying passion that claims their hearts.

My Review:
It took me a while to get on track with the Midnight Breed again after the closing book of the first story arc (Sterling Chase’s story). I’ve had EDGE OF DAWN in my greedy little hands for a while but just didn’t have the time to get to it. Now that I’ve finally read it, I’m all excited for the next read and want to dive into it immediately. I love the new story arc Lara Adrian has created and is setting up for the next generation of Breeds and Breedmates. I’m very curious to see where it’s all going to lead.

Mira and Kellan were great as the main couple and I loved their romance but what truly held me captivated was the plot of this 11th book in the series. I can’t wait for the ones yet to come and to see how it all is going to unfold.
Lara Adrian is a gifted storyteller that hardly ever disappoints me with this series.

The Lawyer
Jackson Montgomery Warring never lets opposing counsel see him sweat. Juggling a dozen billionaire clients on a daily basis, he’s always perfectly prepared, calm, cool and collected. Until he meets his best friend’s fiancée, the luscious Mistress L.

Now he wants a Mistress for himself. Badly. Except the one who’s caught his eye is his complete opposite—a Goth-booted, tatted and pierced priestess of the local tattoo scene.

The Inker
For over a year, Diana Temple has been too busy at her up-and-coming tattoo shop to throw one of her legendary BDSM parties. But for Jackson, she’ll make the time, especially since the slick, fancy lawyer admits he likes to watch.

The Secret
If she thought her edgy style might turn him off, she’s happy to discover she’s wrong. But when she learns his secret addiction, she might refuse to teach him a thing or two about submission.
Or maybe she’ll just punish him harder…

Warning: A rich, successful attorney in a downward spiral, a tattoo artist who happens to be a Mistress, a secret addiction and a peek at exhibitionism/voyeurism.

My Review:
Though this second book in the series didn’t surpass the first I think it held up pretty good. One thing that didn’t entirely work for me was the instant attraction and dare I say; love between Diane and Jackson. It went to fast from complete strangers to a very strong emotional bond and I kept feeling I’d missed something.

Then just as I was starting to think things were going wonderfully well and quick for them and they were smooth-sailing towards their HEA, Burkhart throws in a plotline that had me both in emotional trepidation and cautious excitement. I feared where the plotline was going to take me and yet couldn’t wait to see how this was all going to play out. I must say Iliked the way it played out and I loved that the author didn’t go the “keeping secret that leads to big misunderstanding”-route.

I love this series! For me it stands out in a sea of BDSM erotic romance. Not only because it’s the heroines who are the Dommes but also because of the heavily emotional storylines and the amazing writing of Joely Sue Burkhart, writing I’ve been a fan of since I read my first book by her.
